Strengthening the Performance Dog by Debbie Gross Saunders

Strengthening the Performance Dog
Debbie Gross Saunders

Agility and other dog sports are healthy for your dog, but training for those sports alone is not enough to ensure your dog’s long-term health and wellness. Dogs that participate in performance sports should have both a conditioning program and strengthening exercises. Varying the strengthening exercises will improve your dog’s performance and will protect him against injuries.

In this DVD, Dr Debbie Gross Saunders demonstrates a variety of strengthening exercises that should be part of your cross-training program outside of any sport-specific training. The DVD includes exercises that will improve jumping strength and power, improve collection and turning ability, increase forelimb and hind limb strength, improve balance, and increase hind-end awareness. Many of the exercises demonstrated are puppy-appropriate.

Debbie Gross Saunders holds a Bachelor's of Science degree in physical therapy from Boston University, a Master of Science degree from Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut in Orthopedic Physical Therapy, and she earned her doctorate in Physical Therapy in August 2008 at the University of Tennessee.

Debbie has been working with small animals for over fourteen years. During the past seven years, she has become passionate about the recognition and treatment of injuries in athletic dogs and currently runs a facility on her 23 acre farm that can accommodate lengthy stays for the rehabilitation of dogs, and in particular athletic dogs.
